Its a girl
We are so excited! We just got home a little while ago sorry it was a long day. We had to meet with the geneticist first for an 1.5 and then we had an u/s for an hour. They took over 100 pictures, and then we met with the high risk doctor.
There are no signs of an in utero stroke, or closed lip schizenphaley like my son has which is great news!
However the baby does have a cyst on the brain it is a choroid plexus cyst. They offered and told us to think about an amino. But they said our risks for having a baby with something wrong do to the cyst is 1 in 1000. I don't know what to do or to make of all of this.
We are scared and nervous they told us that the cyst may go away on its own after 24 weeks on. Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced it? What should I do?
I only got a profile shot of the 100 pictures taken:) Babies heart beat was 160 and weighs 10oz!

Congratulations!
My first born had two large cysts in his brain at the 20 week ultrasound. We were really scared but were never offered an amnio. We saw a MFM at around 28 weeks and they did a level 3 u/s and the cysts were completely gone. Apparently this happens in 1-3% of normal healthy pregnancies. My son is now 3 1/2 and completely healthy. I also have a son (younger) that had a stroke in-utero but he did not have cysts in his brain at the 20 week ultrasound. I really can sympathize and relate to all that you must be feeling. Please feel free to e-mail me at allthingszaney@gmail.com. -d
p.s. congrats that it's a girl! How exciting!
Aww, congratulations on your little girl! She looks quite pretty in that black and white profile - good thing she'll have an older brother to keep an eye on her! =)
I'm sorry that I know nothing about the cyst. What would the purpose of the amnio be? Could they do something about the cyst if they do more tests, or would it be simply to give you a better idea about what you might be dealing with? If it's the latter, IMO, I wouldn't go through with the amnio and instead just wait until she's born. Like you said, there are risks associated with amnio but only a 1/1000 chance that the cyst could cause problems. I know, easy for me to say, right?
For what it's worth, a friend's daughter was told that her unborn baby had an abnormally small brain before he was born. She was sent to a specialist who devastated her by telling her that her son would most likely be profoundly disabled. Four years later, he's not delayed in the least and is a perfectly healthy child. Apparently, glitches can show up during pregnancy and end up being nothing.
At any rate, I wish you and the new little one a happy, healthy pregnancy and labor/delivery.
congrats on your baby GIRL!!!!!
