We don't know much about the evaluation because Patrick and I were in a room with the school psychologist to answer questions while he got evaluated. Everyone mentioned how much of a ham he is and how well he looks and did.
When we got home the school called and she said that they didn't see anything that Patrick and I mentioned during the evaluation he was very cooperative. We mentioned that he is different with adults (which only adults were there to evaluate and all of them wanted his attention compared to a group of kids where he needs to fight for attention. The school is going to call the DT therapist and talk to her about everything and we go back next Wednesday to go over the results.
So we will see what they have to say, but I am even more concerned now he may not qualify based on what they saw for the hour they were with him.
He doesn't know how to play well with kids, he pushes, cries a lot. He loves to play with adults because adults put him more at ease he knows what to expect.
He has space issues having kids in his space, and not knowing space boundaries of others when he plays.
He has sensory meltdowns, and has really come along way with all of his therapies the 5 we go to a week...... how could we go down to none?????

THIS is my biggest fear. I don't know why they can't evaluate the kids in their "normal" environment. Seems pointless to do it anywhere else. I think getting assistance is actually harder when your kid doesn't "look" disabled. So crazy.
Oh wow! I can't believe that recieving NO therapies would even be an option!! Can't they look at the medical records? I mean obviously there is something going on with our kiddos, that makes them NEED therapy! I can only imagine your fears with this right now! How absolutley horrible to know your child needs something, but may not be able to recieve it!!! I'll keep my thoughts with you guys!!!
I am thinking of you too. This is my biggest fear too. I just want our kids to get what they need. It seems silly to me that it is even a question at all.
Listen, you could always push back if the worst happens, but wait and see. I can't imagine they will reduce you to no therapies....
I agree, I don't understand how it would benefit Sean in any to go to NO therapies at all. I also don't understand how they can assess a child in one hour outside their normal environment. All children have mercurial temperments and behave differently from one hour to the next. +++ vibes that don't pull his therapy session.
The decisions made in schools are for completely different reasons than those made by medical professionals, and frankly, parents. I don't know what a DT therapist is. I am interested in the outcome of this evaluation - hope you will post more. Barbara
